Sandy's Circus

Artist Alexander Sandy Calder was always fiddling with odds and ends, which led him to create wire sculptures. One day Sandy made a lion, then a lion''s cage. Before he knew it he had an entire circus and was traveling between Paris and New York performing a brand-new kind of art. Full color.

Annotation:
Starting in childhood, the story of sculptor Alexander Calder, known as Sandy, is told in this whimsically illustrated picture book. From a very young age, Sandy loved creating little sculptures, and this talent became a life-time passion and career. As an adult, Paris was a great source of inspiration for Sandy, and he eventually created several suitcases full of a miniature circus in sculpture format before creating his famous mobiles. With gorgeous illustrations by Boris Kulikov. A Kirkus Reviews Best Children's Book of 2008.

Praise
"Calder's name is nearly synonymous with these creations, and Stone and Kulikov spin out a fast-moving tale that is in keeping with their high-energy subject." 9/1/2008

"Kulikov's mixed-media artwork is as imaginative and playful as his subject." 09/01/2008
